"Security  features on Smart Cards,
exemplary on the Mühlbauer ID-Card"

Abstract

The trend of adding multiple layers of security features into smart ID cards, drivers licenses and similar security feature-rich card products has given additional challenges to companies which have to transfer such security features developed in laboratories to industrialization. To ensure its technology and market leadership Mühlbauer, heavily invests in the development of new innovative security features and technological processes to protect smart cards from counterfeiting. The company’s research and development centers with over 400 highly qualified engineers and technicians closely collaborate with customers and research institutions.

Today’s high security smart cards should incorporate not less then 12 security features of different levels and different technologies, including printed features or RFID. Of course the combination of different materials has become already a security feature as well. At the same time, while security requirements have increased, the market has become much more price sensitive.

Mühlbauer offers state-of-the-art manufacturing solutions around smart cards. We are not only developing machines, we are proving complete tailor-made concepts to all our partners.
